Privacy Policy
At BookWise, we value and respect your trust. This Privacy Policy details the types of information we collect, how we securely treat it, and your options regarding personalized advertising.
1. Overview
This Privacy Policy describes how BookWise ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, protects, and discloses information gathered from users ("you", "your", or "user") of the BookWise mobile application. We are committed to safeguarding your privacy while providing a premium, distraction-free environment for reading classic literature.
By installing, registering, accessing, or using the BookWise application, you explicitly consent to the data collection, transfer, storage, and processing practices detailed in this Policy. If you do not agree with these practices, please do not use our services.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information to optimize your reading layout, preserve your bookmarks, sync your progress, and deliver stable, ad-supported operations. This information falls into three categories:
- Account Data (Optional): If you choose to sign up for an optional profile to synchronize bookmarks, custom fonts, reading targets, and historical stats across screens, we collect your email address and profile credentials. You can read books offline without registering.
- Device and Diagnostic Identifiers: We automatically collect standard system parameters to diagnose performance. This includes your device model, operating system version, screen resolution, local system language, Firebase Crashlytics stack traces, and anonymous performance telemetry.
- Mobile Advertising Identifiers: To serve ads, we collect your mobile device's resettable advertising ID, such as the Google Advertising ID (AAID) on Android and the Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) on iOS.
3. Advertising & Analytics Integration
To deliver beautifully formatted public domain books completely free of charge, BookWise implements third-party mobile advertising SDKs (such as Google AdMob) and diagnostic analytics tools (such as Firebase Analytics).
Third-Party SDK Mechanics
These third-party platforms use cookies, hardware advertising tokens (AAID/IDFA), and non-precise IP geolocation data to monitor ad impressions, target advertisements based on interests, and analyze application performance. These third-party networks process your technical data in accordance with their respective privacy policies.
You can disable personalized ads at any time through your operating system settings. On Android, go to Settings > Privacy > Ads and choose "Opt out of Ads Personalization" or "Reset Advertising ID". On iOS, go to Settings > Privacy > Tracking and disable tracking permissions.
4. How We Use Collected Data
We process your technical and account parameters strictly for the following functional purposes:
- Synchronizing your active reading positions, personalized theme settings, and catalog bookmarks across devices.
- Serving programmatic advertisements, which may be customized or non-personalized depending on your consent status and device settings.
- Tracking application crashes, diagnostic errors, and database performance bugs to improve general app stability.
- Complying with legal obligations, verifying platform integrity, and enforcing our Terms of Service.
5. Storage and Local Device Caching
Your offline catalog cache, read progress, font metrics, and preference indices are saved directly on your local device storage using an encrypted Room database.
For registered users utilizing sync features, account records and backup nodes are securely transmitted using SSL/HTTPS protocols and stored on secure cloud databases managed by our cloud infrastructure partners.
6. International Privacy Rights (GDPR & CCPA)
If you reside in the European Economic Area (EEA) under GDPR, or California under CCPA/CPRA, you are entitled to specific data protections, including the right to:
- Request a portable copy of your account credentials and personal reading data.
- Request the correction, modification, or restriction of your personal records.
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal data for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- Withdraw your tracking consent at any time without negative consequences.
- Request the permanent erasure of your account and cloud sync records.
7. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
While BookWise features classic historical literature that is suitable for general readers, the app does not intentionally collect, compile, or target personal information from children under the age of 13.
If we discover that a user under 13 has provided personal information to create an account, we will immediately purge those records from our cloud synchronization systems and database pipelines.
8. Account and Data Deletion Requests
In alignment with Google Play Store Data Safety guidelines, BookWise provides users with a complete self-service pathway to permanently delete their account and associated sync records.
You can trigger this erasure directly inside the profile settings dashboard within the app, or submit a request on our web platform at:
9. Data Security Standards
We use secure technical protocols, including Transport Layer Security (TLS/HTTPS) encryption, restricted key authentications, and regular database isolation checks, to protect your information against unauthorized access, loss, alteration, or disclosure.
Please note that no transmission system over the internet or mobile network is 100% secure. While we work diligently to safeguard your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
